Where bio and solids meet: formation mechanisms and cross-scale structure-property relationships of solid inorganic materials formed at the interface to the biological world

  • Molecular formation pathways of inorganic, biological, and bio-inspired functional solid-state materials in the light of classical and nonclassical crystallization processes
  • Biomimetic synthesis of functional materials, mild and sustainable routes to hybrid and nanostructured materials, with a special focus on liquid/liquid phase separations in water-based inorganic and bioinorganic systems.
  • Biosynthesis mechanisms and structure-property-relationships of biominerals
    and pathological biominerals.
